Postdoctoral position to study the mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus
Date posted: Friday 23 January 2009Apply before: Tuesday 30 June 2009
A postdoctoral position is available to study the mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus. Experiments will utilise electrophysiological whole-cell and perforated patch clamp techniques together with fluorescent imaging of hippocampal slices.
The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust with a starting salary of £29,704 and is for up to 3 years. The candidate will be based within the laboratory of Dr Jack Mellor but will have collaboration with other members of the MRC Centre for Synaptic Plasticity at the University of Bristol.
Research in Dr Mellor´s laboratory is focused on what regulates the induction of synaptic plasticity and the mechanisms underlying its expression. For example, we have recently found a role for SUMOylation in synaptic kainate receptor trafficking (Martin et al., (2007) Nature 447, p321) and have also been investigating the pre- and postsynaptic spiking requirements for the induction of synaptic plasticity (Buchanan and Mellor, (2007) J Physiol 585, p429).
Applicants must have a PhD and previous experience in neurophysiology. Please submit a cover letter, CV and the names of two referees.
