This group is using genetic approaches in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans to understand better the function and biological role of an important class of proteins.
In C.elegans, five spr genes (for suppressor of presenilin) have been identified that bypass the need for one presenilin gene, sel-12, by de-repressing the transcription of a second presenilin gene, hop-1.
The group studies the biological and biochemical roles of the SPR proteins and looks for additional factors that can modify the phenotypes of presenilin mutants in C.elegans.
