Dr Ricardo PardalPhysiopathology of neural stem cellsThe Neuroscience Institute at SevilleResearch AreaThe objective is to study the cellular and molecular characteristics of stem cells derived from the neural crest, which give rise to the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
These cells have tremendous potential for selfrenewal and differentiation and are very attractive for their use in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson, Huntington, etc.
The laboratory is focusing on a specific lineage of the neural crest, called the sympathoadrenal lineage, which gives rise to not only PNS neurons and glia but also to specialized neurosecretory tissue such as the adrenal medulla and the carotid body.
